Proven impact

Real outcomes for real projects.

We partner with organisations where safety is critical and failure is not an option.

ROAK Engineering works on safety instrumented systems for nuclear, defence and high-hazard process projects — from pre-tender functional safety assessments and FSMS build-out through to SIL determination, verification and factory acceptance testing. Engagements are led personally by Richard Kelly, a CFSE and TÜV-certified functional safety expert with 20+ years in the sector, including time on the assessor's side of the table.

What clients say

"Richard has been my main Safety Instrumented Systems consultant during the delivery of a number of significantly complex nuclear and explosive handling projects. He will identify and directly address the key issues, provides sound technical advice and is excellent in this field and he has never let me down."
Duncan Wharton — Director, HarroPeak
"Richard played an integral and key part of the FAT being, on the whole, the success it was. His expert knowledge and respectfully questioning attitude, coupled with his extremely helpful manner, contributed immensely to its success."
Ian Ross — Principal Commissioning Manager

Typical engagements

  • Pre-tender functional safety assessment so bids are priced and scoped against the real safety requirements rather than assumptions.
  • Functional safety management system design and roll-out, giving an auditable framework aligned to IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
  • SIL determination and verification, including proof-test interval and architecture decisions that stand up to independent assessment.
  • Hands-on support through FAT, SAT and commissioning, with issues raised early enough to act on them.
